Acquired in 2020 from Bayer, the WuXi Biologics Leverkusen facility is a final drug manufacturing plant that offers over 13,000 sq. m. of commercial-scale drug product fill capabilities. This location is home to a growing team of more than 150 scientific staff members. The site achieved its GMP approval for Drug Product manufacturing release in June 2020. Located in the heart of the CHEMPARK Leverkusen, the center of Europe’s chemical market between the high attractive cities of Cologne and Dusseldorf, the facility provides a liquid and lyophilization annual fill capacity of 10 million doses and features a flexible, isolator-based, state-of-the-art Optima filling system. Together with our drug substance facility in nearby Wuppertal we support the whole manufacturing process.

The WuXi Biologics Wuppertal site is a state-of-the-art Drug Substance (DS) facility with flexible and open spaces for future expansion. This location is home to a growing team of more than 220 scientific staff members. Ideally located in Wuppertal, an important focal point of Germany’s Pharma industry. The facility offers more than 30,000 sq. m. operating space, including two cell culture suites with 1000L perfusion and 2000L bioreactor capacity, comprised of multiple upstream and downstream suites, integrated laboratory space, and warehouse within building. It is located 38 km from our Leverkusen facility. The Wuppertal facility expects its GMP approval in 2023 to support WuXi Biologics’ Global Dual Source supply chain network strategy which ensures that materials can be sourced, and products can be manufactured at multiple facilities.
